Who publishes this site, what it measures, and what it does not keep.

This page states what this site does with its readers’ data. It describes behavior you can verify in the code, not an intention.

To be confirmed. The site is published on Vercel. The exact entity and address still need to be checked with the provider before publication.

  • Host: Vercel Inc.
  • Address: to be confirmed

This site measures two things: searches that returned no results, and the voluntary feedback left at the bottom of a tutorial through the two buttons “it worked” and “I’m stuck”.

A search with no results points to a topic the documentation does not cover. This measurement is used to decide which pages to write next. End-of-tutorial feedback carries three fields: the tutorial, the verdict, and the blocking step picked from a closed list. It has no free-text field.

FieldContent
The search termthe text entered, after the filtering described below
The languageFrench or English
The versionthe version of the documentation being read
The daythe date, without the time

Nothing else is recorded. The payload sent is closed: it is built field by field from an empty object, and a test compares the whole object. A field nobody thought of cannot slip in.

  • Your IP address. It arrives with the request, as with any web request. It is not read, logged, hashed, truncated or geolocated. There is no access log.
  • Your browser headers: browser identifier, referring page, accepted languages. None of them are read.
  • The time. Only the day is written. A time paired with a rare term would identify a person.
  • An identifier of any kind. Two searches made by the same person are indistinguishable from two searches made by two people.

A stuck reader sometimes pastes an error message into the search bar. Coming from a constrained environment, that message may carry an internal machine name, a client reference, sometimes an access token.

The filter that discards these terms runs on your workstation, before any network call. A rejected term does not leave your machine.

This site writes nothing to and reads nothing from your device: no cookie, no local storage, no session identifier. A test that reads the published site verifies this.

No consent banner is shown to you for this reason: the obligation to obtain consent applies to storing or reading information on the visitor’s device, which this site does not do.

No third-party analytics service is used. No data is passed to a third party, sold or shared.

The fields are sent to a service hosted in France, in Paris, operated by the publisher of this site. They do not leave it and are not passed to anyone.

At the host: less than a week. The service that receives the measurements is a mailbox, not a warehouse. It is emptied every week, and emptying deletes the records as it reads them; they are not copied and then deleted in a second step. The account used by the public collection service has no right to read back what it writes.

After that: 90 days. The records brought back are kept for 90 days, then deleted. Entries that are too old are removed from the file, not merely left out of reports.

Ninety days is enough to know which topics this documentation is missing, which is the only use of this measurement. Regulations allow twenty-five months for an audience measurement; this site has no use for that.

The European data protection regulation gives you a right of access, rectification, erasure and objection.

These rights assume the data concerning you can be found. Nothing here makes it possible to link a record to a person (no identifier, no address, no time): so your searches cannot be found among the others. That is the consequence of choosing to keep nothing that identifies you.

For any question, write to the contact address given in the footer. You can also file a complaint with the Commission nationale de l’informatique et des libertés.

Documentation delivered offline measures nothing

Section titled “Documentation delivered offline measures nothing”

The documentation bundled in a customer delivery sends no request. This is not a setting to apply: with no collection address declared at build time, the sending code does not enter the produced site. Tests verify this by reading the result of the build.

An air-gapped customer reads this documentation without any connection being attempted, to any destination whatsoever.
